King Yin Lei is an important heritage in Hong Kong. It manifests the hybrid architectural style of the Western and Chinese roots. As one of the projects in the government Revitalization Scheme, all buildings in the site should be well kept for both inside and outside. So almost only ‘software’ and light functions can be proposed in those preserved buildings.

The old swimming pool is the only location where a new building might be proposed. The client proposed a new Event Hall to promote Chinese traditional culture and will also hold traditional Chinese wedding to increase the financial viability to support the entire project maintenance.

The respect to the existing buildings is the first priority in this proposal. So the new Event Hall is kept as low as possible and is sloped away from the Main Building. Vertical greeneries and green roof tiles are incorporated into the façade so the design is well blended into the existing King Yin Lei roofscape and the surrounding natural setting. Water element is also incorporated in the new roof to maintain the ‘Feng Shui’ purpose of the old swimming pool.
